The Burden of Diabetes in India
India faces a staggering diabetes epidemic, with 134 million individuals projected to be affected by 2045.
The Growing Diabetes Challenge in India
Diabetes isn’t just a health issue anymore—it's a rising national crisis. Millions of Indians are silently suffering from this condition, and many don’t even know they have it.
Out of those who are diagnosed, only 7 out of 100 people are able to keep their blood sugar levels in check. This means many people continue to live with risks of serious complications like heart disease, kidney failure, blindness, and nerve damage.
In rural areas, 1 in 2 people with diabetes never get diagnosed, while in cities, 1 in 3 go undiagnosed. Even for those who receive insulin therapy, about 68% still struggle with poor control due to a lack of proper follow-up care.
Why is this happening?
Many people don’t know enough about diabetes or how to manage it.
Doctors are overburdened, and may not have the time to educate every patient.
The cost of treatment is high, and that discourages people from seeking help.
Most global guidelines don’t always apply to our population and lifestyle.
The result? A silent epidemic that affects families, disrupts lives, and drains finances.
At DREAMFC, we believe it doesn’t have to be this way. Through early screening, education, training, and community outreach, we are working to rewrite this story—so that diabetes becomes a manageable condition, not a lifelong burden.
